Zen gardens

Welcome! This was recommended to me by a friend. It's called a Zen Garden. I don't know what it is but we'll all learn together...

What you need:

  • a shoebox
  • sand
  • a stick or a finger...
  1. take the shoebox and pour the sand in (it should fill at LEAST half the shoebox)
      2. Once that is done draw lines and shapes inside to make it look pretty with the stick or finger.

     3. When you are done drawing shake the box or you can save it for another day.

     4. Another day you can draw a new garden again. This is supposed to help calm you when you are in a bad mood.

Fairy Gardens

this is a simple idea- but they make great centerpieces. I made the two in the photos around Thanksgiving...

Items needed:

-a plate
-dirt
-leaves
-bark/sticks
-rocks or shells
-moss

Start by laying out all of your items-

Second you need to fill your plate up with as much dirt as needed (it should cover the entire plate)

Begin adding leaves and sticks (don't get too elaborate)

Once you've got an idea on what you want our fairy garden to look like begin adding more decorations (rocks shells, moss, etc.)

If you would like to make a more 3D shape all you need to do is find an empty glass bowl and follow the sam procedure above. (I'd suggest filling the bowl 1/2-3/4 of the way full- not all the way)

Here are some pictures of the final product

Holiday Cheer

Here's a great idea for a christmas decoration: Candy cane trees.

You will need:

  • An empty paper towel tube
  • Paint
  • Scissors
  • Mini Candy canes of any stick-like candy
  • Block of wood
  • Tape or glue

What you need to do:
  • Tape or glue the tube to the wood until it is securely held there.
  • Once the glue has dried (or when you're done taping) you can paint the tree and the wood (stripes, polka dots- whatever)
  • use the scissors to poke holes in the paper bowl tube big enough to securely hold the candy canes.
  • Add any decorations you want
  • Let it dry and put it around your house- simple!
